Connecting Horses & Humans since 1987
About Us
At Taupō Riding for Development (RFD), we provide high-quality equine-assisted services designed to support positive outcomes through interaction and engagement with horses.
Our programmes focus on:
-
Physical health
-
Wellbeing
-
Social inclusion
-
Developing transferable skills
We work with individuals facing disabilities, mental health challenges, and social or emotional difficulties. Our goal is to help build confidence, independence, and essential life skills through meaningful interactions with horses. Each programme is tailored to recognise individual strengths and abilities, supporting personal growth and transformation in a positive, holistic way.
Taupō RFD was officially established in 1987 on Broadlands Road. After many successful years, we were fortunate to secure a long-term lease on a purpose-built facility on Poihipi Road, where we continue to operate today. A great deal of care and planning has gone into making our centre one of the best-equipped equine-assisted service providers in the country.
Our organisation is overseen by a dedicated volunteer committee that ensures smooth day-to-day operations while upholding health, safety, and compliance standards. Their generosity, skills, and passion help make Taupō RFD the welcoming and supportive place it is today.
Staff and Volunteer Committee
Our dedicated team of staff and volunteer committee at Taupō Riding for Development (RFD) work together to ensure sessions run seamlessly while maintaining the well-being of our horses and the upkeep of our grounds.
